The leader of the Northern Inter-Faith and Religious Organisations for Peace, Bishop Musa Fomson, has predicted the end of Boko Haram kingpin, Abubakar Shekau.

The cleric said Shekau would be captured alive and brought to Abuja by the Nigerian army.

In his New Year message yesterday, Bishop Fomson said: “The Nigerian Army will take Shekau captive the same way the terrorists leader had taken Nigerians captive. Shekau’s shame will be great as he would be brought to Abuja for Nigerians to come and see for themselves that the last of the bearers of the title of ‘Shekau’ has met his end because he mocked God and the peace he has ordained for Nigeria.

“Those who secretly support the terrorists while pretending to be patriotic citizens would finally be exposed except they find ways of cutting support to Boko Haram and turn to the path of repentance. Their gang up against the peace of Nigeria is not pleasing to God and the cries of Nigerians to their maker would not go unanswered in the year.”

He added: “Even as God liberates Nigerians from terrorists on one hand, they will also be emancipated economically as the Almighty would restore what the people think they have lost multiple folds like he did to Job in the Bible.

“The upheaval within dominant political parties would however prove impossible to resolve. Top politicians will abandon the APC to make way for new entrants that will show unparralled eagerness to take over the position of those that would leave.

“My counsel is that even in the midst of these visions of abundance, Nigerians must declare a week of national fast and prayers seek the face of God so that the good things can come to pass while any untoward possibilities are averted. We must also repent of all our sins.”

The Bishop also said: “Nigerians complained about what they thought was the reversal in their economic fortunes but 2017 is the year they would realise that the words of Ecclesiastic 3:3 (A time to kill and a time to heal; A time to tear down and a time to build up.) are true and would not pass away without fulfilment.

“Mr President had spent the past time killing corruption that had threatened to kill Nigerians and 2017 is the year in which he shall fulfill his divine mandate to heal Nigeria from the ravages of the cancer of corruption. He has disrupted and torn down the reign of impunity and all the faulty foundations holding this country back; this year is the year in which he would build enduring institutions and systems that would establish a regime of fairness and equity for all Nigerians.”

Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State, Mike Okumagba, has described President Muhammadu Buhari as God sent.

Okumagba told newsmen yesterday that the Urhobos in particular and Delta State had a bright economic and political future under the Buhari administration, urging the people to support the polices of the government.

He said: “We will come out of the present economic recession stronger. Nigeria would have been worst off if not for the emergence President Buhari.

“You would agree with me that the word ‘Buhari’ is synonymous with discipline and accountability.

“We should be patient a little bit and in no distant time, we shall enjoy the benefits of the recession”.

On why he decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to APC, Okumagba said “I just want to key into President Buhari’s philosophy of change which has been paying off.

“Joining the progressives will benefit me and the Urhobos of Warri politically.”

“With the likes of the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun who is maternally from Warri Urhobo, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Chief Great Ogboru and Olorogun O’Tega Emerhor it will be wise for the Urhobos to support President Buhari and APC in 2019″, he added.

While urging the Urhobos of Warri to always be proud of Chief Oyegun as one of their own, he said “there is no division in APC.

“We are waxing stronger hence they are peddling the unfounded rumor of disunity in APC.”

Believe it or not! An Australian trio has broken the world record for the highest basketball shot, launching the ball from the top of a dam in Switzerland.

It took the group, consisting of Brett Stanford, Derek Herron and Scott Gaunson, three attempts to make the shot.

They launched the ball from a height of 180m on the top of Mauvoisin Dam into a net on the ground below.

“It was a surreal moment nailing it on the third shot," Herron, from Perth, told Guinness World Records.

"I watched the ball head towards the rim and saw the net move but still had my doubts that it went in until I saw Scott going crazy."

The three men make up a group called How Ridiculous, and perform tricks and sporting antics to share on social media.

They filmed their world record attempt from different angles, showing off the beautiful landscapes of the Swiss Mountains.

Though there have been conflicting reports especially concerning the age of the victim or what he actually stole, some eyewitnesses say he was caught while trying to break into a shop where food stuff are sold in the early hours of Tuesday, November 15, 2015.

The suspect, it was gathered, was nabbed by some men in the area who descended on him and beat him to a pulp before hanging a tire on his neck and setting him on fire, despite pleas by many to hand him over to the police since he had not actually committed the crime.

Today, November 17, 2015, I just went back to where they burnt that little boy in Alafia bus stop, Badagry. Oboy, the corpse is still there. Roasted like suya. God help us. May his soul rest in peace.

This is not the first time suspects have been lynched to death in the most gruesome of manners with the crowd often not wanting to know what offense they committed before killing them. Some of them have been found to be innocent only after they have been sent to their graves.

A nine-year-old boy from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region was born with blue eyes that can see clearly at night.

He is able to read and write in complete darkness. These amazing, cat-like eyes were diagnosed as a congenital defect, and no medical treatment has been found so far. Fortunately, the defect will likely not be a major obstacle.

“There was a day the twin had a nap in their father’s room in the evening but when they were having their bath the next morning, one of them was complaining of pain in her private part.

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a man identified as Korede Odubela for allegedly conniving with another person to kill his 16- year-old step-daughter, Amudat Oshimodi and sell her parts to suspected ritualists for the sum of N300,000.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, who paraded the suspect on Tuesday at the command headquarters in Eleweeran, Abeokuta, disclosed that Odubela conspired with one Lekan Lawal to kill Amudat for ritual purposes.

The incident occurred at Imosan area of Ijebu Ode Local Council of the state. The duo of Odubela and Lawal were among 12 other suspects paraded by the police for various offences, ranging from armed robbery, burglary and stealing.

The CP told journalists that Odubela was leader of the ritual gang, whose hideout was raided by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) last week Monday after a tip-off about their activities.
Odubela, who confessed to committing the crime, however, explained that he decided to kill Amudat out of frustration, because she was always stealing her mother’s money.

He further stated that his wife and mother of the girl, Fausat also consented to killing the girl just to serve as a sacrifice that would improve the luck and destiny of the other children she had.

“The mother said we should kill her as a sacrifice for the other children. Since she normally slept at the doorpost outside, on the fateful day around midnight, I invited Lekan Lawal, and he held the girl by the neck and strangled her while I held her legs.”

The suspect also disclosed that he sold Amudat’s head to his son, Seun, who is a herbalist and received N3,000 in return, as first instalment.

The Police Commissioner, Iliyasu, maintained that the case was still under investigation, while Amudat’s body has been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ijebu Ode.D

It was gathered that problem ensued between the couple, who resides on Balogun Street, Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos Sunday afternoon, after the husband returned from a trip to his hometown in Benue and discovered that the family savings box was missing.

On inquiry from his son, Oche, the father was informed that the mother went out with her friend around 4pm and had not returned.

The husband who works as a driver with one of the commercial transport companies later found the savings box broken and empty in the wardrobe.

A co-tenant informed our reporter that on her return, the woman was shocked to see the husband as he was not expected home until month end due to the nature of his job.

According to the eyewitness, the husband inquired to know who broke the savings box but the wife could not give him any satisfactory answer.

The source said the husband had saved the money, over N86, 000, for their new accommodation.

Angered by her action, the husband descended on the wife in commando style, beating her blue black.

All her efforts to explain to the husband that the money would yield income in the next 30 days fell on deaf ears as the husband insisted she must cough out the money before morning.

The man, who locked the door of their one room apartment to prevent sympatisers from rescuing the helpless woman, eventually hit the woman with a breakable plate and she collapsed.

The source said on realizing his wife was unconscious, he quickly ran out of the room, leaving the woman and their three-year-old son and fled to an unknown destination.

Former Democratic presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton, blamed Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Director James Comey for her defeat in Tuesday’s presidential election.

Mrs. Clinton said in a conference call with her top campaign donors on Saturday that Mr. Trump was able to seize on both of Mr. Comey’s statements and used them to attack her, according to two participants on the call.

According to the participants who were on the call, Mrs. Clinton told her supporters on Saturday that her team had drafted a memo that looked at the changing opinion polls leading up to the election and that the letter from Mr. Comey proved to be a turning point.

The memo prepared by Mrs. Clinton’s campaign, a copy of which was seen by Reuters, said voters who decided which candidate to support in the last week were more likely to support Trump than Clinton.

“In the end, late breaking developments in the race proved one hurdle too many for us to overcome,” the memo concluded.

Mrs. Clinton was projected by nearly every national public opinion poll as the heavy favourite going into the race but Republican Donald Trump won the election, shocking many throughout the nation and prompting widespread protests.

Mrs. Clinton has kept a low profile since her defeat after delivering her concession speech on Wednesday morning.

She said Mr. Comey’s decision to go public with the renewed examination of her email server had caused an erosion of support in the upper Midwest, according to three people familiar with the call.

Mrs. Clinton lost in Wisconsin, the first time since 1984 that the state favoured a Republican candidate in a presidential election.

Although the final result in Michigan has still not been tallied, it is leaning Republican, in a state that last favoured the Republican nominee in 1988.

Mr. Comey sent a letter to Congress few days before the election announcing that he was reinstating an investigation into whether Mrs. Clinton mishandled classified information when she used a private email server while secretary of state from 2009 to 2012.

The FBI’s director announced a week later that he had reviewed emails and continued to believe she should not be prosecuted, but the political damage was already done.

While the second letter cleared her of wrongdoing, Mrs. Clinton said that reinforced to Trump’s supporters that the system was rigged in her favour and motivated them to mobilise on the election day.

A spokesperson for the FBI could not immediately be reached for comment.
On the phone call, Dennis Chang, who served as Clinton’s finance chair, said her campaign and the national party had raised more than $900 million from more than three million individual donors, according to the two participants who spoke to Reuters.

Professor Wole Soyinka, has berated online commentators for attacking him over his threat to tear his United States of America, USA, Green Card on the day the US-President elect, Donald Trump would be sworn-in.

Recall that the Nobel Laureate has come under serious attacks over the threat to tear his Green Card.

Reacting to the attack, the playwright, in a statement he signed
titled, “Red card, green card– Notes towards the management of
hysteria”, said he would carry out his threat but not at a time fixed
by his critics.

According Soyinka, those asking him to carry out his acclaimed threat  were ignorant of whatever they comment on.

He said, “Let me end with a Red Card to those noisome creatures, the
nattering nit-wits of Internet: maybe Trumpland is not as despicable
as the Naijaland you impose on our reality from your secure cesspits
of anonymity.

“Go back to school. Your problem is ignorance, ignorance of whatever subject you so readily comment upon. Learn to study your subjects before opening up on issues beyond your grasp.

“Sometimes you make one feel like swapping one green for another out of embarrassment for occupying the same national space as you.’’

‘‘If it even becomes convenient to bring it forward, I intend to do
so, but please don’t come at me with plaints of time imprecision.

“I never discussed it with you, nor invited you to a private decision
whose execution was already in the making.

“Do not try to browbeat me. It’s a waste of time – all you have to do
is immerse yourselves in my antecedents. It will not attempt to deal
with the notion of an exit time-table as conceived by others.’’

First graduate from Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, and campaign director to the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo during the 1976 Presidential election, 86-year-old Alex Ajayi said he issued President Muhammadu Buhari, Sani Abacha and Ibrahim Babangida their WAEC certificates.

Speaking with the Punch, he recalled how his hard work as the Principal of Fiditi Grammar School, Oyo State, at age 26 in 1956, where he produced the first set of students in 1959, gave him a job in the West African Examinations Council.

He said, “With that level of achievements, I joined the West African Examination Council as a pioneer staff.

“I was the first substantive Nigerian Assistant Registrar. I took over the control of the examination from the University of Cambridge.

I took examiners to Cambridge for training across 10 years and trained them in Nigeria.

“I had the opportunity of issuing WAEC certificates to three former Heads of State: Buhari, Abacha and Babangida in the 60s.

“When I was in WAEC, I was put on the council of the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in 1966 by the national government of Aguiyi Ironsi.

“I was put on three important committees. The vice-chancellor and others were interested that I became a full staff of the university which I was not really keen about.

“But I finally accepted out of pressure. When I was serving on the council of the University of Ife, I was among the three-member committee selected by Chief Obafemi Awolowo as the first chancellor,” he said.

The Nigerian currency, the Naira is inching towards the N280 to the dollar opening rate at the Financial Markets Dealers Qoute (FMDQ).

The naira on Wednesday closed at N304.75 to the dollar at the official interbank market from N305 recorded on Tuesday.

At the Bureau De Change (BDC) window, the naira exchanged at N385 to the dollar, while the pound sterling and the Euro traded at N550 and N504, respectively.

Trading at the parallel market saw the naira exchanging at N450, N545 and N495 to the dollar, pound sterling and the Euro, respectively.

Traders at the market expressed optimism that the licensing of additional 20 International Money Transfer Operators (IMTO) would bring more liquidity to the market.

NAN reports that in a bid to conserve the nation’s foreign reserve and to liberalise the foreign exchange market, the CBN is interfacing with IMTOs to sell the proceeds of Diaspora remittances to BDCs.

The decision of the CBN has borne very positive fruits as the naira continues to appreciate at the forex market.

A new report from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has projected Nigeria as Africa's biggest economy, in spite of its current challenges.

Nigeria is placed ahead of South Africa and Egypt which are second and third respectively.

In August, Nigeria was reported to have lost its position as Africa's biggest economy to South Africa, following the recalculation of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

But the IMF's World Economic Outlook for October, puts Nigeria's GDP at 415.08 billion dollars, from 493.83 billion dollars in 2015, while South Africa's GDP was put at 280.36 billion dollars, from 314.73 billion dollars in 2015.

According to the report, Egypt's 2016 data is not available, but its 2015 size remained at 330.159 dollars while that of Algeria, one of the largest economies on the continent, is put at 168.318 billion dollars.

The United States, China and Japan maintain their spots as the largest economies in the world, ahead of Germany, United Kingdom and France.

According to a review in September, the current economic recession will outlast 2016, with a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contraction of 1.7 per cent.

The IMF had predicted that Nigeria's economy would grow away from a recession in 2017.

The country last witnessed a recession, for less than a year, in 1991, and experienced a prolonged one that started in 1982 and lasted until 1984.

President Muhammadu Buhari's administration has so far disbursed over N700 billion in capital expenditure this year, part of a record N6.06 trillion (30 billion dollars) budget for 2016.
