Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a man identified as Korede Odubela for allegedly conniving with another person to kill his 16- year-old step-daughter, Amudat Oshimodi and sell her parts to suspected ritualists for the sum of N300,000.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, who paraded the suspect on Tuesday at the command headquarters in Eleweeran, Abeokuta, disclosed that Odubela conspired with one Lekan Lawal to kill Amudat for ritual purposes.
The incident occurred at Imosan area of Ijebu Ode Local Council of the state. The duo of Odubela and Lawal were among 12 other suspects paraded by the police for various offences, ranging from armed robbery, burglary and stealing.
The CP told journalists that Odubela was leader of the ritual gang, whose hideout was raided by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) last week Monday after a tip-off about their activities.
Odubela, who confessed to committing the crime, however, explained that he decided to kill Amudat out of frustration, because she was always stealing her mother’s money.
He further stated that his wife and mother of the girl, Fausat also consented to killing the girl just to serve as a sacrifice that would improve the luck and destiny of the other children she had.
“The mother said we should kill her as a sacrifice for the other children. Since she normally slept at the doorpost outside, on the fateful day around midnight, I invited Lekan Lawal, and he held the girl by the neck and strangled her while I held her legs.”
The suspect also disclosed that he sold Amudat’s head to his son, Seun, who is a herbalist and received N3,000 in return, as first instalment.
The Police Commissioner, Iliyasu, maintained that the case was still under investigation, while Amudat’s body has been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ijebu Ode.D
